Avoca, PA (August 23, 2019) – More passengers means more flights and more seats for customers flying from and to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.  A record-breaking 582,744 passengers flew into and out of AVP between August 2018 and July 2019 – continuing a twelve consecutive month trend of record-breaking growth.

“On behalf of the Airport Board, our airline partners and all those who provide the needed travels services at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, we want to thank the residents and businesses of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New York for their continued use and growing usage of AVP,” said Carl R. Beardsley, Jr., AVP Executive Director. “The support is most appreciated by all of us with Team AVP.”

Beardsley went on to say that increased passenger demand at the Airport leads to more flights and more seats available to our customers. “We truly appreciate our airline partners for the increase in flights, capacity and destinations they’ve brought to AVP as a direct result of this passenger growth at AVP. This growth in passenger demand reinforces that our area passengers are choosing to use AVP more frequently as their airport of choice instead of driving several hours to other regional airports.”

During this 12-month period (August 2018-July 2019), American has served 50,508 more passengers than the previous 12-month period (August 2017-July 2018) – the largest increase of all airlines serving the airport.  New daily service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD), as well as more flights/larger equipment to both Charlotte (CLT) and Philadelphia (PHL) are the main reasons for the growth.

United ranks second, servicing 34,877 additional passengers at AVP.  Additional daily service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD), as well as new service to Washington-Dulles (IAD) are the main reasons for their growth.

Delta ranks third, servicing 1,835 additional passengers at AVP. Larger aircraft to Detroit (DTW) is the main reason for their growth.
