August 5, 2024 (Avoca, PA) – This past weekend, AVP’s Public Safety Department hosted an Active Shooter/Planning Classroom and Exercise Course for the Airport’s Security Officers.

Led by OIC Anthony DiVirgilio from the McAdoo Police Department, the course was designed for the potential scenario of an active shooter in the Joseph M. McDade Terminal Building.

“Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly,” stated Denise Price, ASC, Assistant Director of Public Safety. “It was essential we held the active shooter training for our AVP Security Officers to prepare them to rapidly assess an emergency situation, consider potential responses, choose the safest response for employees and the public, as well as themselves, and act quickly to execute the response.”

Price continued, “This training helps prepare our Public Safety Department to manage expected anxiety and fear and be able to respond to situations of extreme threat. It also allows us the opportunity to review the response options, ask questions, and address anxieties.”
